Tonight begins the holiday of Purim, a time when forces of darkness conspired to take over the world. Yet the Jewish People, led by Esther and Mordechai, summon up the courage to defeat the overwhelming evil. Is this not a story that continually repeats itself??
As you all know, a terrible tragedy struck our world last Friday in Christchurch, New Zealand when a cowardly terrorist committed a heinous massacre during Friday prayers at 2 different mosques. We stand in solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters as they stood with us during our time of need a few months ago.
The Muslim Community of Baton Rouge has organized a candlelight vigil in memory of the many victims. It is scheduled for this Friday at 7:30pm at the Islamic Center (details below). In order to facilitate this, we plan to begin Erev Shabbat Services a few minutes early at 6:25pm and finish by 7:15pm in order to drive together and show our support.
We will still have a ”pre-neg” at 6pm sponsored by Paula Samuels and Lynn Kober in memory of Paula’s father, Martin. Services will begin promptly at 6:25pm. Please join us in prayer and song as we bring light into this world to dispel the darkness.
