Nechama, the Jewish disaster relief organization currently working in the Baton Rouge area, is looking for more volunteers on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Nechama plans to work in Baton Rouge through Sept. 30 and may extend if they can procure more funding.
Volunteers are currently cleaning out damaged possessions from flood-damaged homes and gutting out the walls/floors.
No experience is necessary and Nechama provides all of the tools and safety gear. The work’s pretty dirty so you’ll want to wear clothes you can get messy and also make sure to wear closed-toe shoes. If you’re going to stay for the full day, you’ll want to bring some water and pack a lunch as well.
You can donate to Nechama at www.nechama.org/donate.
