Rabbi Natan will be joined on the bima by Nick May on guitar and Dr. Wendy Zierler, Rabbi Natan’s teacher and our scholar-in-residence.
Saturday, December 10
8:30 AM Breakfast and Torah
Dr. Zierler, author of And Rachel Stole the Idols: the Emergence of Modern Hebrew Women’s Writing, will lead a spirited lecture and discussion of Parshat Va’yetsei, which includes the story referenced in the title of her book.
10 AM Shacharit Shabbat followed by Kiddush Lunch and Learn
Dr. Zierler will discuss the poetry of Yehuda Amichai, considered by many to be Israel’s finest modern poet, focusing on the ideas of faith and doubt reflected in his stunning poetry.
Dr. Wendy Zierler is the Sigmund Falk Professor of Modern Jewish Literature and Feminist Studies at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City. She has educated a generation of Reform rabbis, giving them the critical skills necessary to analyze text and apply the sage lessons to contemporary Jewish life. Her words of wisdom transcend the world of literature and provide inspiration for all those who have the privilege of hearing her.
